VTKW Global Outreach Reaches Over 6000 Miles

VT KnowledgeWorks really is, “encouraging and enabling entrepreneurship, worldwide.”

Jim Flowers, Executive Director of VT KnowledgeWorksIn an unusual demonstration of global outreach by VT KnowledgeWorks, Jim Flowers, executive director, recently delivered a two-part online, live entrepreneurship workshop series from VTKW’s home in Blacksburg, Virginia, USA to select audiences assembled in Baghdad, Iraq, connecting discussions of entrepreneurship over 6000 miles (10,000+ kilometers).

Under the auspices of the Office of the U.S. Speaker Program, Bureau of International Information Programs, U.S. Department of State, Flowers conducted interactive sessions with prospective entrepreneurs and some of their local Iraqi mentors on November 11 and 25, 2015.

“I was particularly impressed by two social entrepreneurship initiatives aimed at helping displaced people living in refugee camps and homeless street beggars,” said Flowers. “We all know that entrepreneurship is challenging and risky. I am truly in awe of the all those attempting startups in a highly unstable environment, for the benefit of truly disadvantaged people. They are heroes.”
