Meet the VTKW Global Student Challenge Teams – T2T

As part of the VT KnowledgeWorks Global Student Business Concept Challenge, August 29 – September 4, 2010, you're invited to attend and observe student teams from around the world compete for a $25,000 grand prize and trophy at the Global Student Business Concept Challenge on September 2, 2010 at The Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center

You can also attend "Entrepreneurship in the 21st Century," a workshop led by Jim Flowers, Director of VT KnowledgeWorks, on September 1, 2010 at The Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center. Please register for the Challenge and Workshop by August 25.

Q: Who are your team members?
A: Sinan Assaf, Postgraduate, Business Management, University of Kent and Ben Giambrone, Graduate, Law and Business Administration

Q: How did you meet or become involved with the other students on your team?
A: We met during a course held on innovation and entrepreneurship.

Q: What is your business idea/concept?
A: T2T is a revolutionary, convenient and safe method of paying for a taxi.  It enables the convenience of being able to pay for a taxi using a mobile telephone.

Q: What encouraged you to pursue this business idea?
A: Many people do not get a taxi if they do not have cash on them. This form of payment allows them to do this. The increase in use of mobile technology shows the idea has real potential.

Q: When was the first inception of your business idea/concept?
A: The text 2 travel concept was first established in 2009, when I personally experienced using a vending machine and wished I could pay simply using my mobile. Form this idea the concept evolved into taxi travel.

Q: In what competitions have you previously participated?
A.

  • Global Business Concept Challenge. First place. Pitched idea to a panel of judges, and beat all other entries.
  • Sinan and Ben – UoK Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 – Local competition 1600 student form University of Kent
  • Sinan – Winner of the UoK Business Ideas Competition – March 2010 – 10 participants
  • Sinan and Ben – Winner of the Princes Trust Million Makers – Feb 2010
  • Sinan – Winner of Young British Entrepreneur, Innovate Challenge – Sep 2009 – Local competition – 30 participants
  • Sinan – Winner of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Final Year Project Award– June 2009 – Nationally run competition accredited by the IET
  • Sinan – Winner of the RoundOne and Canterbury 4 Business £10 Challenge – March 2009 – Local competition
  • Semi finalist in the 2010 National Varsity Pitch Competition – National competition

Q: What are your plans post graduation?
A: Sinan will start work for Accenture as an analyst in March, 2011.  Ben is also seeking consultancy work. Upon winning the competition, we plan to use the money to implement all of the necessary work in order to make T2T a success.

Q: What do you hope to achieve by participating in the Global Student Challenge?
A: Aim to win the competition, and make interesting contacts, including like-minded business people and students.
