Pat Matthews Will Keynote VT KnowledgeWorks Entrepreneurship Summit

I attended my first NewVa Corridor Technology Council (NCTC) event at the University Mall location of New River Community College in late 2007 or early 2008, knew no one, felt unsure of norms and protocols, and ended up near the end of the buffet line where an unexpectedly large crowd left just enough food for one last lunch.

In this situation, I’ve seen the person in front of the last person in line make two choices.  He either follows “first come, first served,” takes the last of the fare, and eats his meal justifiably.   Or, he draws attention to his great magnanimity, gestures with bravado for his newly created audience, and essentially forces the person to move ahead of him.

The man in front of me made neither of these choices.  He turned to me and, with quiet dignity, making a small motion with his hand, said, “Please.”  I protested.  “Please,” he said.  I had lunch.  The man who moved to my previous place at the end of the line did not.

I learned later the man was Pat Matthews.

I look forward to hearing Pat Matthews give the keynote address at the VT KnowledgeWorks Entrepreneurship Summit on Wednesday, April 7, 2010.
