Dreams of Angels – Angel Investor Funding, That Is

When I saw that the inaugural VT KnowledgeWorks Entrepreneurial Summit offers an opportunity for businesses to pitch before a panel of angel investors, as a VT KnowledgeWorks member company, I thought, “I gotta do that.”

During the morning of the one-day Summit on Thursday, April 2, 2009, the director of VT KnowledgeWorks, Jim Flowers, will offer a workshop for aspiring entrepreneurs.  In the afternoon, five pre-selected funding candidates will present their companies through CVG’s LiveFire!™, a format developed by the Charlottesville Venture Group.

CVG’s LiveFire!™ is described as "the 'must see' entrepreneurial Reality Show where three currently investing managers of angel groups give 5 chosen companies the chance to go before them in front of an amphitheater of additional investors, educators, and entrepreneurs…No one's feelings are spared and no question is out of line."

Oh boy.

To compete to become one of the 5 presenting companies, company leaders enter company data online using Angelsoft (through online Software-as-a-Service, SaaS, like AttaainCI) which produces a one-page .pdf used for screening prospective companies.

Angelsoft is considered the industry standard in matching entrepreneurs and investors (like 88owls matches consultants with businesses).

From About Angelsoft:  "Today, with 449 angel groups and VCs, 15,748 investors, and 2,900 new company applications a month, Angelsoft has become a vital ecosystem where real entrepreneurs and real investors meet and collaborate in the effort to build the best new companies of the 21st Century."

The Women 2.0 Startup Competition uses Angelsoft.  A sponsor of the Summit, Virginia Active Angel Network, VAAN, uses Angelsoft.

Into this context, The Wall Street Journal issues this challenge:  So, You Want to Be an Entrepreneur.

So, the VT KnowledgeWorks Entrepreneurial Summit is offering local entrepreneurs a chance to pitch in front of angel investors…

In this economy?! That seems like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

And that CVG’s LiveFire!™ is coming to Blacksburg, Virginia, population 39,200, seems only possible in a dream.  And yet it’s happening on April 2, 2009.

The deadline for submitting an online funding application to CVG’s LiveFire!™ is March 1, 2009.

So, do you want to be an entrepreneur?

Do you have dreams of angel investor funding for your entrepreneurial enterprise?

So, CVG’s LiveFire!™.  Do you "gotta do it"?

Do I?
