International Reach for VT KnowledgeWorks

From Jim Flowers, Director of VT KnowledgeWorks:

Last Thursday, 4/24/08, I had the pleasure of hosting Pierre Rolin, Dean of Telecom SudParis, and Augustin Radu, Director of their business incubator.  We enjoyed a lively comparison of incubation styles and concluded with agreement on continuing exploration of opportunities for collaboration and cooperation, particularly by providing friendly international connections for our incubated companies seeking to market internationally.  Their institute and incubator are located in Evry, the capital of the Essonne Region, about 30 minutes from Paris.

On Friday, 4/25/08, I met with Prof. Suresh Raj Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University in Nepal, and Dr. Tom Hammett of the Virginia Tech  Department of Wood Science and Forest Products.  In 2006 Virginia Tech helped establish a small business assistance center there, and a series of continuing visits supports the growth and success of the center.

On Wednesday, 4/30/08, I will meet with David Butler and Dawn Hudd, trade and economic development representatives from Kent, UK, to discuss the same sort of international inter-incubator collaboration and cooperation covered in the previous meeting with the French delegation.

Added 4/29/08:  I just met with Dr. M.J. Tambatamba, Director of the National Technology Business Centre of Zambia, and several of his colleagues.  We may also do some work with them in the future.
